What is RSV?

RSV stands for respiratory syncytial (say: sin-SISH-uhl) virus. It’s a common respiratory virus that causes cold-like symptoms, usually during the fall to early spring.

In most cases, people develop a mild illness, but RSV can lead to more severe disease in some people.

Who is at risk of severe RSV disease?

Older adults (due to declining immunity that happens with age)
People with certain chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, heart disease, COPD)
People with weakened immune systems
People living in long-term care facilities

Complications of RSV include:

Worsened asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Heart complications
Respiratory problems like pneumonia or bronchiolitis (infection of the small airways that causes inflammation and congestion)
Hospitalization

Being infected with RSV does not protect you against RSV infection over the long term. It’s possible to get re-infected each season.

* Made in Canada with domestic and imported parts.
