mFLUSIVA—a new flu vaccine from Moderna
Introducing mFLUSIVA (pronounced “em-floo-SEE-vah”), a flu vaccine for adults aged 50 and older
For adults age 65 and older, mFLUSIVA was approved based on study results showing that mFLUSIVA helped the immune system respond. Additional research is ongoing to confirm the clinical benefit.
Getting vaccinated each year helps prevent the flu and lowers your risk of serious illness and complications if you do get sick.
In clinical trials, mFLUSIVA was compared against standard-dose and high-dose flu vaccines
- In one study comparing mFLUSIVA to Fluarix®, mFLUSIVA prevented more cases of flu for adults aged 50 and older
- In another study comparing mFLUSIVA to Fluzone® High-Dose, mFLUSIVA helped the body build a stronger immune response in adults aged 65 and older
In these clinical trials, most side effects were mild to moderate and went away in about 2 days
In clinical trials, side effects were more frequent with mFLUSIVA than with these comparator flu vaccines.
There is a small chance that mFLUSIVA could cause a severe allergic reaction. The most common side effects included injection site reactions, tiredness, headache, and muscle and joint pain. These may not be all the possible side effects of mFLUSIVA. To learn more, see the Important Safety Information below.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist if mFLUSIVA is right for you.
